"It was subliminal. It was funny, but it touched on some deep bases. It's what we need."

SYNOPSIS

Using the voices of George W. Bush, Powell, Rumsfeld and Howard Beale (from the 1976 film, “Network”) this modern adaptation seamlessly weaves Suess’ whimsical characters with sound bytes from current events.

The existing political themes of voter apathy in the original cartoon are echoed strongly by the film “Network”- where Howard Beale rants, “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” In Horton Hears a Human, the Professor attempts to enlighten the masses that live on a speck of dust; thus convincing them that there is a much bigger world outside of their own lives.

The voice of reason in both films is written off as lunacy, though the message is clear today: If you want the world to be a better place, even one little voice, one vote, can tip the scale.

All of the sound bytes were downloaded from the CSPAN website- home to hundreds of speeches, UN committees, press conferences and State of the Union Addresses.

The Howard Beal quotes were selected based on the political and philosophical parallels between the two films (both films were produced the same year- 1976. You know, the Cold War, the Olympics in Austria, etc.).
